FIND THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE HERE THE NEW SHINING - HEDGES AGAINST THE NIGHT Written by Juha Harjula / 02-02-2010 / Melodic.net The New Shining is a band that I never heard of before my friend and former Melodic.net reviewer Kaj Roth ask me if I wanted to review and I said yes. So here we are with the 2nd release from this power trio that hails from Holland. I can hear why Kaj loves these guys from Holland because they delivers a nice mixture of modern rock with Aussie rock and some hints of melodic hardrock. Their singer Nax has a great voice and he sings with strong passion and feeling that I got hooked by. Soundwise they are a mixture of Nickelback, Invertigo meets U2 and some Bon Jovi vibes but I think they have found their own identity. The production is crystal clear and sounds amazing and when you hear this for the first time you might think this is a major label release, the man behind the sound is Erwin Musper. God Only Knows is a great rocker that reminds of Nickelback but with a poppier approach. Here’s To Nothing is a lovely mid-tempo song with wonderful melodies and it reminds a lot of the Aussie band Invertigo. No Exit is a strong up-tempo rocker with great riffs and melodies. The hard rocking Set It Off is great with strong hooklines with a Europe feel over it. This is a great album these 3 Dutch guys have done and I have to check out their debut album that Kaj raved about. So if you think these mentioned bands are your cup of tea then don’t look any further because The New Shining is here to shine up your day.
